Living in Krypton -- Come Sit On My Back Porch Stories
What's it like living in Krypton, Kentucky? I dearly love it! I live with my grandmother (she is 93), my uncle lives next door, and I have two aunts that live with in a few minutes of us. My youngest aunt is only a couple of years older than I am, so we often do things together.
I love living with my grandmother for so many reasons, but one reason I love it so much, is that our relatives love to come visit my grandmother; therefore, I get to meet new cousins all the time. In fact, the Pennigton's have a cousin's reunion each year. Next year I will go to for the first time.
Krypton boasts a U.S. Post Office, a fire station, 2 mom-and-pop groceries, a church, and many other home based business, including mine. If you extend Krypton up to the top of Campbell's Creek Mountain, then there you can count more small churches and business.
Krypton is also a place where people help each other out. It may be to bake a pie or cake or tell you that you can have some turnip greens from their garden. Often times the church with much help from my uncle will build a porch or fix the flooring in someones home. Of course like anywhere there will be people who don't get along, but Krypton, in my opinion, is special.
I took some pictures from the back porch of grandmother's house. These trains travel back and forth hauling coal out of the mountains. Sometimes it feels like you can just about touch one of those trains they are so close.
